Hungerford Dogs Spaid By Hunters

In the previous two meetings between these teams, the Blackhawks had run out narrow losers. However, within the first two minutes of this game, two things were clear.

1. Woking were going to win….
2. ….and it wasn’t going to be close
Woking got out of the gates FAST. Ben Woods, playing on a gammy foot, still managed to pour in 6 early points. Nick Sputnick mopped up EVERYTHING on the boards, finishing the quarter with 6 points of his own and new boys Devon and Grinham stretched the defense with their long range threat. Dave Nuttall also managed 6 points including an ‘and one’ play. All this meant that Woking went into the second quarter with a 29 – 12 lead.

Devon James got Woking off to the best possible start in the second quarter, hitting three back to back three pointers! But after that there was a little lull in the tempo, and Woking only managed 12 points the rest of the way. Even so, the half time score was 50 – 26.

The third quarter saw Woking score an amazing 41 points, thanks in no small part to some great three point shooting from Devon (2 threes) and James Grinham (4 threes). James Grinham scored an amazing 17 points in the quarter alone, and Devon also managed a very impressive 11! This combined with continued hustle and rebounding from Nick ‘Sputnick’ Sammut meant that things were starting to get embarrassing for Hungerford.

Things threatened to get a little fiery in the fourth.Hungerford’s number 11 tried to rugby tackle David ‘Nuts’ Nuttall to the ground, and Nuts received a technical foul for telling him what he thought of it. But Nuts had the last laugh, scoring 11 points in the quarter and hitting the free throw which put Woking over the magic 100 mark.

Although some players will take most of the limelight, the truth is that EVERYONE played really well and is equally deserving of the credit! Overall, a mighty impressive 65 point win for the Woking Blackhawks!
