Woking Blackhawk Flyers 65:53 Folkestone Saint

Time for a Win!

A fortnights break with some good training sessions under their belt, Andre Bayliss returning from injury and new signing Rhys Johnson the bench,  the Flyers confidence had been rebuilt after their first three losses of the season in the league.

Coach Knode had opted for a new starting five combination of Dan Marshall, Andre Bayliss, Tomas Politi, Tom Peters and Jack Price. With instructions to go out at full intensity using the plays practised in training. The result was what he wanted the tip was won, baskets were traded and the lead changed several times but by the end of the first quarter after a few tactical substitutions to maintain the impetus a 3 point margin was established.

Thames Valley Cavaliers 89:69 Woking Blackhawk Flyers

Mens National Shield Second Round

After the away league game the previous day where two of the squad forwards were injured, this fixture against the Cavaliers first team, who are currently Division 3  league leaders, was never going to be easy. Further travel problems reduced the Flyers actual playing squad to 7 meaning substitution, fitness and rotation would be critical!!, further Dan Marshall had to play out of position at point guard

Jack Price took the tip which was rapidly overturned for the Cavaliers to take the first basket. For the first quarter the Flyers found it difficult to play the more powerful Cavaliers with ill-considered plays, however their effort and perseverance was faultless . This resulted in a 17 point deficit by the end of the first quarter

Woking Blackhawk Flyers 61 : 78 Southampton University Sharks

Not the Ideal Start to the Season

From the tip, which Jack Price won, the Flyers took possession, Dan Marshall drove to the basket, drew a foul and then sank two free throws to take the initial lead – an ideal start to the game.

Southampton Sharks immediately struck back with a couple of baskets  closely followed by their No 8 Saatori sinking three triple point baskets  in quick succession which appear to stun the Flyers who were not able to defend against the onslaught.

Kent Crusaders 91:70 Woking Blackhawk Flyers

For their first game on the road the Flyers travelled to Kent for their clash against the Crusaders. Whilst Oscar Wilkins and Jake Price were both unavailable this weekend the return of Tomas Politi to take the point and forward Luke Sinnick was cause for optimism.

The game opened in a similar manner to the previous fixture with the Flyers winning the tip and Dan Marshall rapidly sinking the first basket of the game. The first quarter progressed ‘nip and tuck’ with the score tied on 23 each at the first break.
