Flyers Clip the Eagles Wings
Flyers 73:64 Exeter Eagles
Flyers Captain Andre Bayliss walked off court at the end of the game with a smile on his face . His team had just claimed their second home league win with a 9-point margin over Exeter Eagles. Giving them a 4 from 2 record and positioning them mid table in the league.
Big man Jack Price won the ball off the tip but the Eagles took the initial advantage and led throughout the first quarter, at the break they had a small 4 point margin 16:20. Having missed the previous week’s game Coach Knode led by example with a significant 9 points in the first quarter however this could have been significantly more having only converted 4 from 11 field goals.
By the fourth minute of the second quarter the Flyers took the lead which was never regained by the Eagles. however, the score was levelled for the 6th minute in the final quarter. This was a decisive time with the Eagles having tied the game at 58:58 the Flyers had to retain their confidence in themselves as a squad and not revert to individual play which had happened in previous defeats. They maintained their composure, kept to their tried and tested plays and prevented the Eagles from regaining control. Significant in this period was a hustle and a basket from Richard Green and two quick baskets from Damian Knode that drew out a seven-point margin.
Coach Knode was pleased by the squad performance that achieved the victory. Top scorer and MVP for the Flyers was Damian Knode with 25 points, 3 rebounds and 2 steals. Devon James was 1 rebound short of a double-double with 13 points and 9 rebounds. Dan Marshall claimed 12 points 3 rebounds and 3 assists however he did manage to get himself fouled out in the last quarter.
Rhys Johnson and Craig Mathema provide invaluable pressure on the court which was not necessarily reflected in their stats. Whilst Tom Peters contributed a double of short range baskets but was unsuccessful with his usual 3 point shots
Next week there is no fixture due to the withdrawal of Bristol Flyers, the next home game is on Saturday 26th Novembers when the Flyers host Bristol Storm
