Woking Blackhawk Flyers 85:60 Reading Rockets
For the first home league game of the season the Flyers hosted league leaders Reading Rockets who had won their first two games against Oxford Stealers and Southampton University.
A tentative start to the game saw the teams exchanging baskets. The Flyers taking a marginal lead during the first quarter, tied at the end of the quarter 16:16 and Rockets taking a one point lead by the middle of the second quarter 24:25.
It was now that Devon James found his rhythm and went on a 10 point run for the Flyers which opened up a 9 point lead at the half. With the initiative the Flyers they sensed the win and were not to be denied. In the second half the lead widened with the third quarter won by 14 points 24-10 resulting in a 25 point lead. This was maintained throughout the final quarter resulting in the final winning score 85:60 for the Flyers.
Coach Knode was pleased with the Flyers performance, whilst there was plenty of room for improvement the squad showed promise with a strong sense of teamwork. Top scorers were Devon James 21, Jack Price 19 and Dan Marshall 16. New signing Shawn Ottesen had his game cut short by a knee injury, which it is hoped will not keep him out of the game for long.
Next Saturday the Flyers host Thames Valley Cavaliers in the National Shield at Woking College 15:15 tip.
