End of the Season for the Flyers as they Down the Rockets

Woking Blackhawk Flyers 91:39 Reading Rockets

A dominant performance for their last regular season league home game saw the Flyers resoundingly beat their local rivals Reading Rockets 91:39. Unfortunately progression to the play-offs also required Thames Valley Cavaliers to beat Kent Crusaders which they did not achieve.

The Rockets took the initial 2-point lead, they followed that with Foard sinking a long three taking the score to 4:5. That was the last time in the game that Rockets led.

Point guard Tomas Politi was dominant in the first quarter, controlling the Flyers play and sinking 9 of the Flyers 20 point.

Dan Marshall was his usual hustling self, maintaining high pressure on Reading and forcing them to make errors. With a full bench Coach Knode was able to rotate to players on the floor maintain fresh legs at all times. By the first break Flyers had a 20:13 lead

The second quarter continued, as the first except this time seven different scorers contributed to the increasing Flyers tally. That combined with force defence limited Rockets to a further 9 point whilst the Flyers sunk 18 more by the half.

At the half break coach Knode instructed the squad to further intensify the defence and put the game out of Readings reach, and this is what happened with the Flyers sinking 26 whilst conceding only 5.

The final quarter was a formality with the Flyers continuing their scoring streak with a further 27 points, closing the game out 91:39 by the final buzzer.

MVP for the game was Tomas Politi (19 points and 5 rebounds) closely supported by James Grainger and Richard Green

Reflecting on the season Coach Knode has seen his squad grow in confidence and gel into a confident playing squad. The failure to make the playoffs is a blow, particularly as the season of only 12 games due to three teams dropping out, did not give the squad the scope for them to perform to their full ability.
