Woking Blackhawks 63:47 South Bucks Comets
Thunder put up an Awesome Fight Against Yateley in the Div 3 Final
Yateley Silverbacks 60:57 Woking Blackhawks Thunder
OPEN DIVISION 1
Woking Blackhawks beat South Bucks Comets by 63 – 47
In this eagerly anticipated game between old rivals, South Bucks and Woking, the spoils went to Woking who ended South Bucks winning streak in the League, Cup and Playoffs which stretched back some five years. Woking played a pressing game throughout and the bench proved stronger in the long run which kept pressure on South Buck in all quarters. However, uncharacteristically, South Bucks squandered many opportunities from the free throw line, scoring only five from 26 attempts. Woking also missed 8 of their attempts. This, and the sinking of three pointers at critical times, ultimately made the difference between the two sides. The first quarter was won by Woking by six points, and they also won the second by 8 for a comfortable half time advantage. Woking won the third by 3 points but South Bucks never gave up and won the final quarter by a single point. Woking’s defensive formations were outstanding throughout and the youngest player in their Team, Alex Braine Porter, deservedly won the MVP for the game mixing strong defensive work with some excellent baskets. Well done to all on a fantastic game of basketball as it should be played.
OPEN DIVISION 3
Yateley Silverbacks 2 beat Woking Blackhawks Thunder by 60 – 57
In an entertaining and noisy game, Yateley just edged home after a strong fightback by Woking in the final quarter. The first quarter was a close affair with Yately edging it by one point, but in the second quarter, they extended the lead to 10 points at the half time break. After the restart, Yateley seemed to have got the measure of Thunder as they extended the lead to 16 points with three minutes to go in the quarter. Woking found a second wind and started to pressurise Yateley to reduce the score to 53 – 40 at the end of the quarter. Woking now had the momentum and Yateley started to tire and became a bit more ragged. Slowly the deficit was reduced to four points by the 9th minute of the final period, and despite continuous pressure by Woking it all came down to the final few seconds where a three pointer would have tied up proceedings. Yateley eventually played out the clock to record the win by 60 to 57.
